Incorporated in 1888, Waveland, along Mississippi's Gulf Coast, was identified by an early travel writer as, "a great circle of friends". That circle of friends continues to expand. They love parades, especially to celebrate Mardi Gras, St. Patrick's Day and Christmas.
Waveland has great experience in recreating its neighborhoods and cultural image, having barely survived Hurricanes Camille (1969) and Katrina (2005). The constants in Waveland's life are its waterfront location on the Mississippi Sound and pristine beaches. Beauty of the sunrise and sunset as reflected on the water is Waveland's calling card to visitors.
